WELCOME TO THE PLANET OF IRISES!

WELCOME TO THE PLANET OF IRISES!

Terentyevа M.S., Kiev

Everyone knows the rule of the LittlePrince: wake up in the morning and set the order in yourself and your planet. So do the people of my story – it is Mykola and Valentina Yakymenko’s family. They live in a lovely village Volodkova Dіvitsya (the Chernigov region, Ukraine). For them, it all starts with their favourite house and land with irises. Everything here is impressive: dimensions of flower beds and a number of flower varieties. And most importantly, all the flower beds which are well formed and well maintained, have signs with the names of varieties and weed-free.
The  participants of THE UKRAINIAN IRIS  SOCIETY  (UIS) saw such beauty of the Yakimenko’garden  Participants viewed a collection of irises with great interest. They learned a lot of new farming techniques for flowers and appreciated the beauty of the new varieties of irises. With the new experience they can review their submission to care for flower beds and can enrich   their collection with interesting varieties.
The participants of THE UKRAINIAN IRIS  SOCIETY  (UIS) were very grateful for the wonderful excursions. The first day was a walking tour around the Nizhyn city. The participants visited Nizhyn State University named after Gogol, St. Nicholas Cathedral, Greek church of All Saints.
Next day, the participants visited Historical-Architectural Reserve “Kachanivka” where  they could see the exposition of Tarnovskys and Kharytonenkos family estate’s museum. Once in that palace artists and poets  were living and doing their work, the famous talented Ukrainian intelligentsia met there. They  were T. Shevchenko, Marco Vovchok, M. Glinka, S.Gulak-Artemovskij.
The participants also saw the beauty of the man-made garden. It is National arboretum “Trostyanets” of Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences. This monument of park architecture of the 19th century  was created by Getman I. M. Skoropadsky. Thеre are many wonderful evergreen plants, man-made mountains and a large lake with white swans.
The participants of THE UKRAINIAN IRIS  SOCIETY  (UIS) are grateful for the excellent organization of the Congress and wishing success for the Yakimenko’s family in breeding new varieties of irises.  Hardworking peoplе who love their work and achieve results are certain to live on this planet and in Ukraine in particular.
Mykola and Valentina Yakymenko, we believe in you
